The Gospel of Matthew comes after the Gospel of Mark, and has with in its text a theme. What is Matthew's theme? Is this Gospel Political? As we journeyed through this Gospel we discovered that the theme of Matthew is Socio Political. Jesus is highlighted as Messiah!

What is the Concept of Messiah?

What is the significance of Matthew's Geneology?

What is Gematria?

What is a Chiasm?

How do these concepts come together in the book of Matthew?
Mark

The Gospel of Mark can be considered a September 11th Gospel, A gospel written with a sense of urgency to a Jewish audience at a time of chaos and devastation. The Gospel according to Mark carries within its text a sense of secrecy.  During this Bible study session we looked at the activiness of this secrecy and even learned what the secret was all about.

September 11, 2001 proved to be an extremely tragic time for Americans as the United states suffered at the hand of terrorism. On this day, aircrafts were flown into the World trade Center in Ny, NY (The Twin Towers). The American Econmy struggled, fear reaked havoc among U.S. Citizens, and the desire for vengeance grew significantly.

The Gospel of Mark comes to us as a written work around 70CE, a time of chaos and havoc, just like that of September 11, 2001. The Jewish Temple had been destroyed by the Roman Empire, and the Jews struggled with fear, their economy stiffled, and vengeance grew significanlty. During this Session we investigated Mark's role as the first Gospel; although rigid, rough, and straight to the point it carries a message, structure, and theme to people in their time of crisis!

What is the secrecy of the Gospel of Mark?

How does the Gospel of Mark speak to you?

What evidence can we pull from Mark, that points to its rigidness, roughness, and/or directness?
